Come Worship with us
At Pilgrim PCA Worship is at the very center of our life as a church involving all that we are – our attitudes, emotions, actions, mind and will. In worship we recognize and adore God, revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, and our aim as a church is that Jesus Christ and His gospel always stand at the heart of our worship as we seek by the power of His Spirit to give God the glory, honor, praise, submission and service which He commands and deserves.
Why Worship?
Man was created to worship. I Corinthians 10: 31; Psalm 102:18;Isa.43:7; Isa. 45:18; Rev. 4:11 Westminster Shorter & Larger Catechism Q/A 1
God is seeking worshipers. John 4: 23, II Chronicles 16: 9
God calls us to worship. Psalm 29: 2, Psalm 95: 6 – 7
Worship will be our joyful service in heaven. Revelation 4: 10; 5: 11 – 14; 19: 1 – 7, 10
Worship is our only fitting response to the love, grace and greatness of God.
Who do we Worship?
We are to worship God and God alone. Ex. 20:3; Deut.6:13-14; Isaiah 42:8
We are to worship God the Father. John 4: 23
We are to worship Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:6, Philippians 2: 10 – 11, Revelation 5:8 – 13. “And Thomas answered and said, my Lord and my God.” (John 20: 28) Jesus is our Lord and God.
What to expect in our Worship Service
We’re committed to God-centered worship at Pilgrim, as the biblical purpose for public worship is to honor and glorify Him. Each part of our service is included to help us focus on God Himself, rather than primarily on how we feel. Yet, our response is important; we are to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (Westminster Shorter Catechism). Praising and honoring God are primary.
Worship that honors the Lord and is centered on Him must follow the guidelines that He has given us. We seek to include only those things that the Bible makes clear we should include and leave out anything not explicitly revealed in His word as appropriate for public worship. We desire to remember at all times that He knows best how He should be worshipped as the holy, living God of all creation.
God is an orderly God, as we can see in His creation and actions, and we seek to worship Him in an orderly fashion. Our worship follows the pattern of God’s redeeming work in our lives and is structured as a dialogue; God speaks and we respond. The biblical pattern of worship demonstrates God speaking to us through Scripture and our responding, by His grace, in praise, confession and thanksgiving:
